Obituary for Eloise Simmons (Blandin)

Eloise Simmons (Blandin)
Eloise Blandin Simmons entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at the age of 98. Eloise was born in New Orleans, Louisiana one of eight children to Albert and Alice Blandin. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Lester, Harman and Irvin and sisters Marilyn, Jacqueline and Veronicia and survived by brother Albert. For more than fifty years Eloise worked at Xavier University. She was so well regarded that even after retirement, she would be called to substitute for vacationing former co-workers.Eloise married Arthur Fredrick Simmons, Jr. and they remained blissfully together until his death in 2005. The had no children but were admired by many. Most young people who knew them, simply referred to them as "Uncle Simmons" and Aunt El". Eloise was meticulous about herself...her manner, her speech, her dress and her home. In 2012 she moved to HomeLife In The Gardens where she attended daily Mass. She was a devout Catholic who loved her faith and God deeply. Her examples of consideration and respect towards everyone she met guided her through her journey of life. She belonged to many organizations...ASBS; Sodality; a long time officer of the Xavier University Credit Union; many times over President and Officer of the ACCW; and long time Member of the Advisory Board of Directors of Lafon Nursing Facility. Eloise received many honors, plaques, certificates of appreciation and medals. Her most significant and meaningful was The St. Louis Medallion, which she received from Archbishop Hannon at the Saint Louis Cathedral. Her heart was always with the Sisters of Blessed Sacrament who gave her her first and only job to her at Xavier University and with whom she lived in Bensalem, PA after losing her beloved husband Arthur during Hurricane Katrina. Afterward she lived in California with her brother and his wife for four years until returning to her home in New Orleans. Eloise is survived by her brother Albert Blandin and his wife Joyce, their four children, Leslie (Mike), John (Dina), Lyndiamarie, Tom (Nina) a host of nieces and nephews. Eloise lived a good, long life, full of love, hard work, generosity, faith and hope. Even though she is no longer physically present here today, her spirit is in our hearts and will always be in our memories. In Lieu of flowers please make contributions to Xavier University Music Department. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial, Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at Corpus Christi 2022 St. Bernard Ave., NOLA 70116. Visitation at 9:00 AM until service at 10:00 AM. Interment St. Louis #3 Cemetery in New Orleans.
