Gwendolyn (Gwennie) Reese Barconey entered into eternal life on Sunday, March 11, 2018 in the comfort of her home with her devoted husband at her side. She is survived by her loving husband Whitney H. Barconey, III of 35 years; children: Cheryl, Michelle, Stacie and the late Gloria Williams (Alvin); grandchildren: Henry, Erica, Marvin, Alicia, Whitney, Ahki, Darius, Irvin and Ivanna; great-grandchildren: Lil Henry, Jamal, Romello, and Kylee. Siblings: Claude Reese, Clarence Reese (Roselyn), Webster Reese, Evelyn Adams (Walter), Shelia Crayton, Brenda Crayton, Sylvia Pleasant, Pat Reeves. Sisters-in-law Patricia Anthony (Ben), Betty Daniels (late Kenneth) and Brenda Rainey; godmother of Dr. Taj C. Adams and Lorenzo Clavo a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents: Ruth Beauchamp, Daniel W. and Marjorie J. Reese as well as her sisters Ruthlyn Morris (Cleophus), Patricia Franklin, Barbara Lee and sister- in-law Donna Reese. Gwen graduated from Walter L. Cohen Senior High School where she was Ms. Wa-Lo-Co in 1960. She received her Bachelors Degree in Mathematics from Southern University in Baton Rouge where she was one the Original Dancing Dolls and a Kappa Sweetheart. She went on to receive her Masters Degree from Tulane University in Mathematics. She taught at various Catholic and public schools throughout New Orleans and Jefferson Parishes, and retired from Southern University in New Orleans as an Assistant Professor of Mathematics.Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Celebration of Life honoring Mrs. Gwendolyn R. Barconey, at Charbonnet- Labat-Glapion Funeral Home, Chapel of Roses, 1615 St. Philip Street New Orleans, Louisiana, 70116 on Saturday, March 17, 2018 at 12:00 P.M. Visitation begins at 11:00 A. M. Interment, Mt. Olivet Cemetery, New Orleans,Louisiana.
