Mother Clair Marie Witherspoon Chopfield entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, July 17, 2018 at the age of 85. Clair was the eldest daughter of Mr. Arthur Witherspoon Sr. and Annie Watson Witherspoon. She attended Xavier and Dillard Universities. Dillard served as her inspiration to sing opera and study classical music. Clair was united in holy matrimony to Walter Chopfield Sr. This union was blessed with their only child, Tonja Ann Chopfield Jackson. She later moved to Violet, Louisiana where she was affectionately known as "Momma Chop". Clair leaves to cherish her memories her beloved daughter, Tonja Chopfield Jackson, devoted son-in-law Kevin Jackson, grandchildren: Shawn and Shawna Jackson, devoted nephew Thomas Smith Jr., God Children: Marsha Alexander, Valerie Hillard, Carl Wilson and Ross McCatheryn; faithful friends: Rose Pepp, Dora Kelly, Francis Skinner, Lillian Evans, Rose Washington and her loyal caregiver; LaQuetta Cole and a host of other family and friends. Clair is preceded in death by parents; Arthur, Sr. and Annie Witherspoon, husband; Walter Chopfield, Sr., sister; Bernice Mildred Witherspoon Bass, brother; Arthur Witherspoon, Jr., Godson; Glen E. Witherspoon. Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation on Friday, July 27, 2018 from 7:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M., at Charbonnet Family Services, 9200 I-10 Service Road, New Orleans, LA 70127. The Celebration of Life honoring Mother Clair Marie Witherspoon Chopfield will be held on Saturday, July 28, 2018, at Christian Fellowship Family Worship Center, 5816 E Judge Perez Drive, Violet, LA 70092, at 11:00 A.M. Visitation begins at 10:00 A.M. IN THE CHURCH. Interment, Private.
